OUR MISSION:
The Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Saudi Arabia (CDHR) was established to promote a peaceful transformation of Saudi political, social, religious, educational and economic institutions. A non-sectarian, decentralized political structure under the rule of law will guarantee the rights, and accommodate the needs, of all citizens and expatriates, regardless of religion, gender, ethnicity, and regional background. Progressive reform in Saudi Arabia is not only a moral imperative for the Saudi people, but vital for Middle East stability, as well as global security and prosperity.
Saudi Arabia plays major religious, political and economic roles regionally and globally. With its large oil reserves and centrality to the 1.2 billion adherents of Islam, Saudi Arabia could be a force for democratization in Arab and Muslim countries and communities worldwide.
OUR VALUES:
CDHR promotes:
- The empowerment of Saudi women
- The transition of existing consultative bodies to democratically elected legislative assemblies
- The privatization of state-owned industries
- Accountability and transparency in the state-owned oil sector
- A modernized and independent judicial system
- Religious freedom and tolerance
OUR OBJECTIVES:
- Write and promote a blue print for a new political structure in Saudi Arabia based on decentralization of power, empowerment of all citizens, equal rights under a national non-sectarian constitution and freedom of religious practice
- Gather and disseminate accurate information about the situation in Saudi Arabia and suggest practical reforms
- Use the internet and satellite TV to communicate the benefits of democratic values and the rule of law to the Saudi people
- Support the empowerment of non-sectarian and democratic Saudi movements both inside and outside of Saudi Arabia
- Utilize the media and public conferences to address the importance of democratizing Saudi Arabia
- Keep CDHR supporters informed of its activities and events in Saudi Arabia through newsletters and e-mail reports
